Major Stoney Trail interchange getting close

August 29, 2013

Upcoming work on Calgary’s new Sun Valley/Chaparral and Stoney Trail/Highway 22X interchange moves this important section closer to opening.

Construction on the interchange, taking place between September 2 and September 17, will impact travel in all directions on the existing interchange.

For eastbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X traffic:
·        Heading north on Sun Valley Boulevard - turn left at the existing intersection of Chaparral Boulevard SE/Sun Valley Boulevard to the new intersection and take the second left turn to travel north.
·        Heading south on Chaparral Boulevard SE - turn left onto Sun Valley Boulevard at the existing intersection and continue north to make a right turn at the new intersection.
For westbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X traffic:
·        Heading north on Sun Valley Boulevard traffic - exit onto the northbound ramp and merge onto Sun Valley Boulevard.
·        Heading south on Chaparral Boulevard - take the exit ramp and make a left turn at the new intersection.
For Sun Valley Boulevard traffic:
·        Heading west on Stoney Trail/Highway 22X – access the new intersection, turn right to the westbound lanes.
·        Heading east on Stoney Trail/Highway 22X -  go through the new intersection on Chaparral Boulevard and turn left onto the eastbound ramp.
For Chaparral Boulevard:
·        Heading west on Stoney Trail/Highway 22X - pass the highway and make left turn onto the westbound ramp at the new intersection at Sun Valley Boulevard.
Motorists should use caution in this area and obey all signs, message boards, and flag people. Fines double in construction zones when workers are present.

Southeast Stoney Trail is a $769 million P3 project for construction and 30-years maintenance of 25 kilometres of six-lane roadway, nine interchanges, 27 bridge structures and three flyovers, as well as maintenance of 12 kilometres of Deerfoot Trail between Stoney Trail SE (currently Highway 22X) and the Highway 2A junction. It is set to open to motorists this fall. Visit www.sestproject.ca for more information.

Including this new segment, the Alberta government has invested $1.9 billion in Calgary’s ring road, one of many projects which deliver on Alberta Transportation’s Building Alberta commitment. All of this work supports the economy and increased market access by focusing on capital plan projects for core infrastructure and key corridors, fulfilling the Redford Government’s promise to invest in Alberta’s transportation network.
