Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for September 4, 2013

Tour of Alberta Pro Cycling Festival
The Tour of Alberta Canada’s Pro Cycling Festival will have major roadway impacts to the downtown core starting Saturday, September 7 until Sunday, September 8. The following roads will be closed from 10 a.m. Saturday, September 7 until Sunday, September 8 at 3 p.m.:

·         4 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.E. and 1 Street S.W.
·         Centre Street between 3 Avenue S.W. and 5 Avenue S.W.
The following roads will be closed on Sunday, September 8 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.:
·         1 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.E. to 7 Street S.W.
·         6 Avenue S.W. between Centre Street S. to 2 Street S.W.
·         Centre Street S. between 7 Avenue N.W. to 6 Avenue S.W.
·         1 Street S.W. between River Front Avenue S.W. to 6 Avenue S.W.
·         River Front Avenue between 1 Street S.E. to 1 Street S.W.
·         3 Avenue S. between 1 Street S.E. to 1 Street S.W.
·         3 Avenue S. between 6 Street S.W. to 7 Street S.W.
·         6 Street S.W. between 4 Avenue S.W. and 3 Avenue S.W.

United Way Camp Kick Off – 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, September 5
·         3 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue S.W. and 7 Avenue S.W. will be closed at 11 a.m.
·         Rolling closures along 3 Street S.W. to Eau Claire Market (Barklay Parade S.W.) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Easter Seal Drop – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, September 5
·         No parking on 4 Avenue S.W. between Centre Street S. and 1 Street S.W.
·         Curb parking lane will also be closed.

Spruce Meadows “Masters” – from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, September 6, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 7  and Sunday, September 8

·         Eastbound Spruce Meadows Trail/Highway 22X will be reduced one lane between Tournament Lane and Spruce Meadows Way S.W.
·         Spruce Meadows Way S.W. will be reduced to one lane southbound and two lanes northbound, just south of Highway 22X.
·         Speed will be reduced to 50 km/h during this time.

Calgary Corporate Challenge Road Race – Sunday, September 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon
·         50 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 14A Street to Crowchild Trail.
·         Watch for runners in the Lakeview and North Glenmore Communities.

Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope Event – 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, September 8
·         There will be parking restrictions on the south side of 66 Avenue S.W. between Crowchild Trail and 37 Street S.W.
·         Watch for runners in the curb lane.

New road closures and lane restrictions
Northeast
Saddlebrook Drive N.E. between Saddlemont Boulevard N.E. and Saddlelake Green will be closed from 7 a.m. Tuesday, September 3 to 7 a.m. Sunday, September 7 for utility work.

Southeast
The northbound left hand lane on Macleod Trail S.E. at 25 Avenue S.E. will be closed on Friday, September 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the removal of concrete barricades.

The southbound right hand lane of 52 Street S.E. at 76 Avenue S.E. will be closed on Friday, September 9 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for traffic signal repair. Westbound turns will be allowed, however speed restrictions will be in place for the duration of the repairs.

Eastbound 61 Avenue S.E. between 30 Street S.E. and Barlow Trail S.E. will be closed at 9 a.m., Monday, September 3 for about one week, for gas main upgrades. Local business traffic only will be allowed to enter eastbound 61 Avenue S.E. with remaining traffic detoured to 72 Avenue S.E. and 66 Avenue S.E. This is the stage one detour and is part of the gas main replacement project at Barlow Trail and 61 Avenue S.E., which will have various stages of construction during the month of September. Updates for this project will be provided as information becomes available.

There will be various single lane closures and a speed restriction of 60 km/h on northbound and southbound Blackfoot Trail S.E. south of Heritage Drive S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays during the month of September. This is to allow for new roadway construction at the future 85 Avenue S.E. connection to Blackfoot Trail. The 60 km/h speed reduction will remain in effect 24/7 due to construction activities close to roadway.

Southwest
Southbound Sarcee Trail S.W. between Richmond Road and Glenmore Trail S.W. will be closed on Saturday, September 7 from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. for paving.

Northbound Sarcee Trail S.W. between Richmond Road and Glenmore Trail S.W. will be closed on Sunday, September 8 from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. for paving.

Westbound Bow Trail east of Crowchild Trail will have the right lane closed and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, for work related to the Bow Trail bridge. Access to the Crowchild Trail exit will be maintained.

Strathcona Drive S.W. will be closed between Strathearn Crescent S.W. and Strathlorne Crescent S.W. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 8 for utility repairs.

Ongoing road closures and lane restrictions

Northwest
Symons Valley Road N.W. from 144 Street N.W. to just past the city limit at Range Road 261A will be reduced to one shared lane of traffic, requiring flag personnel to direct traffic until, and a speed reduction to 50 km/h until mid-September for road paving.  
City crews are currently undergoing the Surface Overlay Paving process at Southbound Stoney Trail N.W. between Beddington Trail N.W. and Country Hills Boulevard N.W. Lane reductions are in place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, beginning Tuesday, August 27 until Friday, August 30. Drivers are advised to expect delays.

Westbound Country Hills Boulevard at Sarcee Trail N.W. will be reduced to one lane for construction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, beginning Monday, August 26 to Thursday, August 29.

Northbound Crowchild Trail will have a left turn restriction onto 24 Avenue N.W. daily from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. starting Monday, August 19 and lasting through to the end of November. This is part of a traffic flow pilot and will include a closure of the left turn lanes along northbound Crowchild Trail between 16 Avenue and 24 Avenue.

Northeast
Country Hills Boulevard N.E. between 14 Street N.E. and Deerfoot Trail will have the left lane closed in both directions for construction. Closures are as follows:
         Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., from Monday, August 12 to Friday, September 6.
         Saturdays and Sundays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Monday, August 12 to Friday, September 6.
A Single lane closure west of Nose Creek / Beddington Trail N.W.  will be required to facilitate the paving near the west Nose Creek bridge on Thursday, September 5 at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Delays in this area are expected.
 
Edmonton Trail between 28 Avenue N.E. and 41 Avenue N.E. will be restricted to the two west lanes, one lane in each direction starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 21. The two east lanes are closed for reconstruction for approximately three months. Access to several roads on the east side of Edmonton Trail is also closed. Businesses and residents will still have access from the east. The sidewalks along the east side are closed and bus stops will be temporarily re-located. 36 Street N.E. will be closed between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, beginning Monday, April 8, between Airport Trail and Country Hills Boulevard for the roadway to be reconstructed from two lanes to four lanes. The closure, which will last approximately four months, will allow Airport Trail connections to be made to 36 Street N.E. eastbound from the Airport Trail tunnel. Southeast
Barlow Trail at 61 Avenue S.E. will have various stages of construction during the month of September to allow for gas main upgrades beginning at 9 a.m., Tuesday, September 3.  Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes, such as Deerfoot Trail, as delays are expected.  Updates will be provided as timelines for the various stages become available.

24 Street S.E. between 86 Avenue S.E. and Quarry Park Boulevard, will have all traffic shifted to an adjacent detour road on the east side of existing roadway, to allow for utility installations and surface upgrades starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 21. In addition, 85 Avenue S.E. west of Shepard Road will be restricted to local traffic only with commuter traffic detoured to the new 86 Avenue S.E. alignment, that connects to the 24 Street S.E. detour road. This stage of development is expected to last for approximately six to eight weeks at which point an upgraded section of 24 Street S.E. will fully open to traffic. Updates will be supplied as project progresses.

114 Avenue S.E. between 68 Street S.E. and Stoney Trail will have the speed reduced to 50 km/h from 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 until the end of September due to construction activities adjacent to the roadway. This work is being completed for Stoney Trail tie-in work.

The left turn lane on northbound Seton Way S.E. is closed for construction beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, August 8 and will continue until Tuesday, December 31 at midnight. Drivers are advised to watch for directional signage.

Southwest
The single lane bridge on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15. Traffic will be maintained on the two eastbound lanes on 9 Avenue S.W. over 14 Street S.W. In addition, 14 Street S.W. under the 9 Avenue S.W. bridge will have various lane closures starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15 continuing until the end of September, for the 9 Avenue bridge over 14 Street S.W. rehabilitation.

Alberta Transportation projects

Stoney Trail at the Nose Hill Drive overpass will be undergoing construction on Thursday, September 4 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Speed limit will be reduced to 50km/hr with various lane closures in effect. Detours will be in place, please follow the detour signage posted along the construction route.

Westbound lane restrictions on Stoney Trail N.W. between Beddington Trail and Country Hills Boulevard N.E. will have lane restrictions starting Thursday, September 5 to Saturday, September 7.

Stoney Trail N.W. between Country Hills Boulevard N.W. and Beddington Trail N.W. will be under construction .  Traffic will be impacted as follows:
         The northbound median shoulder of Stoney Trail N.W.  has speed is reductions from 100 km/hr to 80 km/hr through work areas
         Southbound lanes on Stoney Trail N.W. have temporary pavement markings in place. Paving will resume on the southbound lanes on Tuesday, September 3
         Drivers are advised that construction personnel will be on site and that speed reductions are in place
Stoney Trail at Highway 22X and Stoney Trail at Sun Valley/Chaparral will remain under construction in preparation for the opening of the new interchange from Monday, September 2 to Tuesday, September 17.  It is expected that eastbound and westbound traffic on Stoney Trail at Highway 22X and northbound and southbound traffic on Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. and Chaparral Boulevard S.E. will be impacted by construction activities.  Drivers are advised to expect delays and detours in the area.  Visit www.sestproject.ca for more information.
