Work continues at McKenzie Lake/Cranston Boulevard

Starting September 18, motorists will follow new routes between McKenzie Lake/Cranston Boulevard and Stoney Trail/Highway 22X.
As part of the Southeast Stoney Trail Project, motorists will be rerouted to accommodate construction of a new interchange.
All traffic accommodations starting September 18:

Southbound McKenzie Lake Boulevard traffic heading east or west onto Stoney Trail/Highway 22X

  • Motorists heading west onto Stoney Trail/Highway 22X will turn left prior to the intersection, then right onto the temporary ramp towards westbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X.
  • Access to eastbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X will be closed. Use Deerfoot Trail.

McKenzie Lake Boulevard traffic heading north or south onto Deerfoot Trail

  • Northbound motorists on McKenzie Lake Boulevard can proceed to the Deerfoot Trail interchange to access north or southbound Deerfoot Trail.
  • Southbound motorists on McKenzie Lake Boulevard will need to drive past Stoney Trail/Highway 22X, turn left on Cranston Boulevard and take another left on Cranston Avenue SE until they reach the interchange at Cranston Blvd. / Seton Blvd. and Deerfoot Trail.

Cranston Boulevard heading east or west onto Stoney Trail/Highway 22X

  • Northbound motorists who want to head west will need to drive over Stoney Trail/Highway 22X, turn right at the new intersection, and then head right onto the temporary ramp towards westbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X.
  • Access to eastbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X will be closed. Use Deerfoot Trail.

Cranston Boulevard heading north or south onto Deerfoot Trail

  • Motorists heading north will pass the Stoney Trail/Highway 22X and continue on to the McKenzie Lake Blvd. / Deerfoot Trail interchange to turn north.
  • Motorists in the community of Cranston will access southbound Deerfoot Trail at the Cranston Blvd./Seton Blvd. interchange with Deerfoot Trail.

East/westbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X heading north onto McKenzie Lake Boulevard or south on Cranston Boulevard

  • Eastbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X traffic will pass the existing intersection, take an immediate exit on the right onto the temporary ramp to choose northbound McKenzie Lake Boulevard or southbound Cranston Boulevard.
  • Westbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X motorists heading to McKenzie Lake Boulevard must turn right at Deerfoot Trail and then take the interchange at McKenzie Lake Boulevard.
  • Westbound Stoney Trail/Highway 22X motorists heading south to Cranston Boulevard must turn south at 52 Street and right on Seton Boulevard which turns into Cranston Boulevard.

Southbound Deerfoot Trail to Westbound Stoney Trail / Highway 22X heading north onto McKenzie Lake Boulevard or south onto Cranston Boulevard

  • Southbound Deerfoot motorists can take the westbound exit ramp to Stoney Trail / Highway 22X to access northbound McKenzie Lake Boulevard or southbound Cranston Boulevard.
Or alternatively
  • Southbound Deerfoot motorists can use the McKenzie Lake Boulevard/McKenzie Towne interchange or the Cranston Boulevard/Seton Boulevard interchange to access the communities
Drivers are reminded to obey all flag persons, signs and signals. Fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones.

Additional Information

Southeast Stoney Trail is a $769 million P3 project for the construction and the 30-year maintenance of 25 kilometres of six-lane roadway including:
  • nine interchanges;
  • 27 bridge structures; and
  •  three flyovers.
The P3 contract also involves the maintenance of 12 kilometres of Deerfoot Trail between Stoney Trail SE (currently Highway 22X) and the Highway 2A junction. The Southeast Stoney Trail opens to motorists this fall.
